Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you all are enjoying a new start. The watauga river has been fishing great. We’ve had good flows from the TVA and the fish have been feeding well. The weather has been crazy. A week ago it was 70 degrees. We started this week in the 30s, with temps climbing to 60 tomorrow. Nymph rigs are the most productive method right now. Streamers are pulling some fish as well. All in all it’s a great start to a new year. April and May are already starting to fill up. We have openings in January and February still available. Watauga River Fishing Report

The TVA has been generating for a couple of weeks and the consistent flows have the fish feeding. Nymph rigs have been the most effective. Not too technical. 5x tippet, midges, blue winged olive nymphs, and good drifts are producing good numbers and quality fish. Dry flies have been hit or miss. You’ll get a hatch one day, and won’t hardly see any the next. We have a couple of December dates left. Give us a call if you would like to get on the water.

We’ve been fishing high water for the last few days. Good numbers of healthy fish are coming to the boat. The high water flows from the TVA have been consistent and have the fish feeding well. Nymph fishing is the way to go. We haven’t been seeing much dry fly activity. This is a great time of year to fish. Give us a call if you would like to get out on the water. The weather has been all over the place this week. It’s in the mid 60s one day and in the teens the next. The good news is, the Watauga river is fed from the bottom of the dam. Meaning the water temps are relatively close all year. The cold weather doesn’t bother the trout. We’ve been having some really good days. Good numbers of fish with some bigger fish as well. November and December are always good months to fish. The weather can be a little hard to predict, but the fishing is definitely worth it. Hello November! Frosty mornings and sunny afternoons are here. The fishing is great! Light nymph rigs and dry/dropper rigs are working well. We are starting to see some more blue winged olives in the afternoons. A bwo emerger pattern has been working great while the fish are rising. I know I sound like a broken record, but it’s the truth..Long leaders, light tippet, tiny midges, and a long drag free drift are key. Fall has finally arrived in northeast Tennessee. We’ve been having cool mornings getting up to the upper 70s in the afternoon. Midges are hatching like crazy. So many that the bite has been a little tricky. Good, but tricky. By tricky I mean extremely subtle takes. Long leaders, light tippet, and tiny midges along with long, drag free drifts are the name of the game. Please feel free to give us a call if you’re interested in a fishing trip. The weather is starting to feel like fall. We got some much needed rain and the temperatures are in the 70’s. If you’ve read our previous fishing reports, you know that small flies, light tippet, and long drag free drifts are key. We’re fishing dry/dropper rigs with small midges and light nymph rigs with small blue winged olive nymphs and midges. Both rigs are working well. October is nearly full. It’s hard to believe that today is the last day of September! September was an outstanding month on the Watauga river. Small midges on light tippet, with long drag free drifts got it done for us. Light nymph rigs and dry dropper rigs have been the game all month. I can’t wait to see what October holds. Bigger fish will be moving up and feeding in preparation of the spawn. Fall is here! The leaves are turning and some are falling. It’s my favorite time of year in east TN. Tiny flies, light tippet, and long drag free drifts are the game. We’re still looking for blue winged olives to get fired up, it won’t be long. Good numbers and some good quality fish are coming to the net on dry droppers and light nymph rigs. We are starting to see signs of fall. Leaves are starting to change color. It won’t be long before temperatures start drop. Right now the fishing is great. Light nymph rigs and dry dropper rigs are producing well. Small midges and blue winged olive nymphs on light tippet are our go to setups. Long drag free drifts are the key to being successful. We are seeing a few blue winged olives hatching here and there. It won’t be long before we start to see significant hatches. Temperatures have started to cool down, but the fishing is still hot! Light tippet and small midges are the way to go. Light nymph rigs are bringing lots of fish to the boat. We’re still doing good with beetle patterns under the trees as well. August has been amazing and with fall right around the corner, the fishing will just get better. Another great week in the books. Starting early in the mornings has really paid off. We fished both rivers last week. Low water Watauga has been fantastic. So has high water on the South Holston. We had a few sulphurs on the South Holston last week. Not a huge hatch, but enough to have consistent dry fly fishing. So far August has been a blast. I can’t wait to what September holds. August is here and the fishing is great!

Light nymph rigs and dry dropper rigs have been the name of the game. Small flies and light tippet. One of our guests landed a 20” rainbow on 6x tippet yesterday. It’s not the easiest game in town, but it can be rewarding. Small midges and micromay’s are working well. We are still getting fish on beetle patterns also. Mike’s magic beetle, and Ben’s beetle are both good patterns.

We spent a couple of days last week on the South Holston and it did not disappoint. The high water fishing was very consistent. With lots of fish coming to the boat.

Watauga River Fishing report.

It’s hard to believe, but here we are and it’s already the last day of July. This summer has been a blast. We’ve had some incredible days on the water. The TVA has been sticking to the normal summer flow (rec flow). Meaning low water in the morning and turning on at 1pm and running until 6pm Monday through Friday. They run from noon until 6pm on Saturdays. This Rec flow will continue until Labor Day.

Small flies and light tippet have been the name of the game on low water. We’ve been doing well with small scuds and midges. If you prefer dry flies. Terrestrials are still working well on top.

Watauga River Fishing Report

Another great week. The Watauga river is fishing like a champ. The rain showers have had the lower part of the river dirty for a couple of days. Plenty of clear water up top though.

Terrestrial fishing has been phenomenal. The beetle bite is on fire. Nymph fishing is producing good numbers of fish as well. July has been great and August looks to be just as good. Give us a call if you’d like to get out on the water.

July has been one heck of a month. It’s hot! But, so is the fishing. We’ve been running wide open. The flows from Wilbur dam have been great. Good flows keep the water cool and the fish healthy. The terrestrial bite has been one of the best we’ve had in a couple of years. Beetle fishing is just about as much fun as you can possibly have with a fly rod. Flows have been back to normal on the Watauga river. Low water in the morning and generation in the afternoon. We’ve been running more half day trips this time of year. A lot of folks prefer to fish a half day and beat the heat. The low water fishing in the mornings has been great. We’ve been catching fish on midges and sulphur nymphs.
