Watauga River

The Watauga river flows over 16 miles from Wilbur Dam to Boone Lake.  This beautiful river is home to more than 4,000 trout per mile.  It is known for it's trophy brown trout as well as rainbow trout.  Brown trout stocking ended on the Watauga river in 2015.  We have a huge caddis hatch in April with sulphurs following right behind them.  It is not uncommon to have a blue winged olive hatch even in the summer months.  We can float the Watauga river no matter what the current flows are.  Although the flows do dictate which areas we will float.
